Have you ever wanted to read your bible but have no clue where to start? I mean some will say to start at the beginning. Some will say to start in the New Testament. I have done both and I’m here to tell you that nothing speaks to me more than when I trust in The Lord to lead me bible study instead.
Here’s how I do it. Are you ready for the secret?
I………PRAY! I mean it. I sit with my bible in my hands and just talk to Jesus for a little bit. Sometimes I talk about my day, sometimes about what I’m struggling with, sometimes I just talk about how I feel in that moment. Then at the end of my prayer I ask God to speak to me and allow me to understand whatever he needs to show me in that moment. Then I flip through my bible with my eyes closed until I’m told to stop flipping through and read. Whatever the word opens to, that’s what I read. Works every single time.
I have found that by doing this it builds a level of trust between me and him. I trust that he will lead me in the correct direction and every time I end up finding exactly what I needed in that moment. I have also found that this creates more of an open conversation with The Lord. So, the next time you go to read your bible and have no ideas where to start, try this. I know that God will speak to you. All you have to do is ask, trust, and listen.
