When I first started this job I knew I had to change a lot about myself. There were so many things that made it easier where I used to work but this one required the best version of me and the most professional I had ever been all wrapped in one. As the year continued I noticed that I became increasingly heated over the small stuff. Someone would use a certain tone when talking to me or maybe even just look at me in a way that I would read too much into and the next thing you know, my blood is boiling.
one day I finally had to sit with myself and come to the realization that I no longer liked who I had become. This new version of me did not represent who I wanted to be in the slightest. However, I kept coming back to the question over and over again, “I am doing my Bible study and listening to The Lord in all other aspects of my life, why am I so angry here and how do I fix it?”. Once I spoke these words out loud it was like a lightning bolt hit me striking my core with the most obvious answer. “You haven’t given your work life to The Lord.” In that moment I clasped my hands together and began to pray to God. At first it started out like any normal prayer would, ” Lord, please grant me the peace within my work.” and then it morphed into something more complex and beautiful. My heart began to speak and I had a whole conversation with God in the best way. I could feel his presence and I felt consumed by this feeling.
At some point I finally asked the Lord to come into my life through all aspects. I begged him to help me at work and give me wisdom and understanding for the things I did not know. I asked for patience and peace on the things that I could not handle at the moment without getting angry. I asked for clarity when the work life begins to overcome things more important in my life. I asked for many things and I prayed until I could not pray anymore in that setting.
The next day I woke up and walked into work to feel like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. The perspective I had for my work-life had shifted completely. I felt as though for the first time in a long time, I could see as if a fog had lifted. My work life stayed I the lane assigned to it and the stress of around me began to melt away. I became more pleasant to be around as more and more my co-workers and I began laughing and talking again. I remember sitting in my office and saying a quiet thank you to The Lord for immediately answering my prayers.
